RIVER CRUISE – ON BOARD EXPERIENCE

Cruises: Life on Board River journeys, by their very nature, progress at a gentle pace allowing passengers the opportunity of watching the scenery pass by, slowly changing as the river cruise vessel transports it’s guests through different counties and countryside.

Cabins can often match the standards expected of some luxury hotel rooms. Nearly all cabins have windows or small balconies. Space can however be limited on some river cruises, so be mindful when packing your suit cases! The cuisine offered is generally of a high standard as is the service given. Most river cruises offer just the one sitting for dinner with a flexible choice of meal arrangements being freshly prepared. There is always a main restaurant and a lounge area open to all passengers. Some river cruises offer a small swimming/plunge pool and sun deck area to relax as well as a Bar and Library room, sometimes with internet facilities. Air conditioning is becoming more common on board some of the higher grade river cruises. You will find that comfort and elegance are blended together well on a river cruise, so you travel from one exciting destination to the next in stylish lounges furnished with soft chairs and sofas upholstered in fine fabrics and leather.

Disembarking a river cruise can be hassle free due to the lower number of passengers on board, unlike some Ocean Cruises where hundreds of passengers want to go ashore for their excursions all at once!

The excursions are well planned, relaxed and well paced to ensure you enjoy every minute of your holiday. At many of the major cities and ports of call, the river cruise will locate itself centrally to allow the best use of time there. On Board entertainment is regularly arranged.

Security on board is high, as you would expect on any cruise, which means that passengers feel safe and at ease throughout their holiday.

Smoking policies on some river cruises are liberal, generally, smoking is not permitted in cabins or in certain public areas. However, there will usually be places on board where smokers are permitted to light up. Excursions using coach travel are 100% smoke free while on the coach.

River cruises tend to be more relaxed than some of the major ocean cruises which means that the dress code is typically smart-casual in the evenings, but this does depend on the operator. At times where there may be a special event taking place or a gala dinner which the captain attends, more formal attire is usually expected, jacket and tie for men and cocktail dresses for women. There are also occasions when a theme night is planned such as fancy dress, but these are entirely optional, however, most passengers will make an effort to join in the occasion.
